Paul Cummings, a retired Naval Officer, has worked to ensure that complex transportation systems run smoothly and quickly for decades. Due to his expertise in logistics, Cummings was deployed on ships and to bases around the world, including Alameda, San Diego; Norfolk, VA; and Japan, but has called Alameda County his home for the past 25 years.
During his time in the Navy, Cummings served on ships as a division officer in Norfolk, VA, and Alameda, CA and as a department head in Norfolk, VA, and Yokosuka, Japan. He served as a battle group logistics officer in Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm and was decorated for the successful logistics operation in support of the emergency evacuation of Subic Bay, Republic of the Philippines, which followed the eruption of Mt. Pinatubo. Paul was the Commander’s aide at Naval Base San Francisco and at Commander Combat Logistics Group One in Oakland, CA and on the staff of Commander Naval Air Force, US Pacific Fleet.
Cummings has served as a liaison for the NPS Citizen’s Advisory Committee on the future of Alcatraz and the State of California San Diego Bay Harbor Safety Commission. He was Executive Director of the Affordable Housing Management Association covering Northern California, Nevada, and Hawaii for 10 years.
Cummings is actively engaged throughout our community and has been an active member of the Rotary Club of Oakland for almost 25 years. As a member, he chaired the Community, Youth, and Senior Service Committee and served as a Director on the club’s board. For more than 15 years he has volunteered at the Berkeley Men’s Shelter serving dinner one or two days a month.
With a passion for logistics and philanthropy, Cummings has been actively engaged throughout our community. His concern for his community and belief in its great potential is what propelled Cummings to run for BART director.
Cummings obtained a bachelor’s degree in Public Administration from the University of Southern California and a Master’s in Business Administration from Saint Mary’s College of California.
